NORWICH VT: SHAPE-NOTE SINGING

HANOVER NH: IRISH TRAD SESSION

BELLOWS FALLS VT: ACOUSTIC JAM 
7-9pm: Julie Waters hosts the 2nd Sundays Song Circle downtown at the RAMP Gallery in the Exner Block, 9 Canal St. The room is non-smoking and wheelchair-accessible. Please call in advance to indicate interest – Julie cancels the date if there’s insufficient interest. Advance requests can be made up to 8pm the Friday before the circle by leaving voicemail at 802.451.1947.

Second Sundays, BRATTLEBORO VT: JAZZ JAM 
2pm: The Open Music Collective hosts a Jazz Jam facilitated by Jamie MacDonald, bassist and co-founder of the OMC. A piano, drums, PA, and some in-house amplification will be provided. Musicians should bring charts, their instruments, and a willingness to take risks and receive feedback. Sessions are held in the Cotton Mill Hill complex, studio number A335. BRATTLEBORO VT: TRAD’L w/ DANCE 
7-10pm: A Brattleboro Balkan Dance at The Church – music by Xopo, which is Anna Patton on clarinet, Becky Ashenden on accordion and tambura, Church Corman on accordion, tambura and horn, Maimon Miller on violin, Barbara Blumenthal on tambura, and Joe Blumenthal on bass and percussion. ARTS GUILD INAUGURAL SHOWCASE (non-music)

4-7pm: This showcase is a one-night-only event! This Inaugural Showcase is a defining event for the new Grafton Valley Arts Guild, a non-profit marketing cooperative supporting the arts within the village of Grafton and surrounding communities. "Sustaining The Arts, Sustaining Communities" will take place at The Old Tavern At Grafton’s Phelps Barn with a display of the architectural collage works of Campion Tillbrook, reminiscent of art deco, and the elegant wood sculpture and furniture of Jason Ballard of My Minds Design; also to savor, a featured Ascutney Mountain cheese from Cobb Hill. There will be a screening of a short film about Cobb Hill’s focus on sustainability by Vermont Public Television called Re-Generation at 5:30 pm. The guild's president Adam Howard will make a few brief remarks, followed by a meet and greet with guild members as well as an opportunity to make application and view the guild’s new gallery space, scheduled to open in April, directly across from the Old Tavern At Grafton.

DAVE SHAPIRO MEMORIAL / CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE / POTLUCK / JAM

2-6pm: Dave Shapiro was one of the finest musicians to ever grace the Green Mountain State, a consummate master of the bass, and a man who made his mark on the history of jazz with his work with Woody Herman, Anita O'Day, and Chet Baker, as bassist for the house band at Eddie Condon's, and as a founding member of the Metropolitan Bopera House. Through his recordings with Danny D'Imperio, Joshua Breakstone, Woody Herman, and Michael Musillami he continues to inspire a new generation of players. Dave had the most intimate knowledge of the history of the music combined with an exacting memory for dates, tunes and players. He was a treasure and an undeniable influence for so many. Join this Celebration of Dave's Life at the Vermont Jazz Center. THere will be a Quaker-style open sharing time, performances by family and friends, and an open jam session. 5:30-8pm: The "Making it in the Arts" Series from Brattleboro - West Arts continues with this second public artist potluck & forum at the Elliot Street Cafe on Elm & Elliot. How does one make a living, stay creative, and have a career in the arts? What effect does commercial success have on artistic growth? What are the assets and challenges of working as an artist in the Brattleboro area? MUSTER DAY TRADITION (non-music)

2pm: "Cannon Shenanigans and New Hampshire's Muster Day Tradition" is a presentation of the NH Council on the Humanities, with Jack Noon. This tradition which officially ended in 1850 actually persisted well into the 20th century; local militias would carry on drills, marching and sham battles; town and regional rivalries often extended into the stealing of cannons. The whole thing was a spectator event, "accompanied by entertainers, vendors, gamblers, and a great deal of alcohol."
